The Foundation of Empathy (Nehemiah: Lessons in Rebuilding, Pt1)

It is easy to get frustrated and jaded when we look at the world around us. We learn from Nehemiah, and what was exemplified in Jesus Christ, empathy is the way to a solution. It was empathy that compelled Christ to engage the incarnation and be born for the distinct purpose of dying on the cross. Empathy led Nehemiah to see a problem and spring into action as part of the solution. There is a lot wrong in our world, but there is also a lot wrong in my own heart. It is the empathy and faithfulness of God that engages my broken heart and thinking to bring peace and connection with the Father. If he can engage me for the purpose of healing, then maybe he can use me to engage others for their recovery and ability to experience peace and connection.

NOTES: Nehemiah 1:1-11

Bottom Line: The foundation of restoration is empathy. Empathy is birthed through a right view of God’s faithfulness along with a right view of myself.

HOW DO I JOIN GOD IN HIS RESTORATION PROJECT?

1. I must live aware of the brokenness around me and within me. (v. 2-3; 6-8)

2. In my awareness I must engage others with empathy. (v. 4)

3. I must trust in the faithfulness of God. (v. 4; 9)
